We Skipped June

They say that life is what happens when you're making other plans... Well, May and June were really crazy months for us and, although we did our database updates every week, we didn't have the time to update either this page or our home page. Quite frankly, we don't think anyone missed those changes, but we did get one note asking what happened. Anyway, as Arnold said, "We're back!" Sorry for the interruption.

May and June Contribution to the Human Rights Campaign

In keeping with our pledge to donate advertising revenue earned on “Hate State” listing pages, we're pleased to announce that the Human Rights Campaign will receive a donation of $228.85 for earnings during the month of May, and another $265.51 for the month of June. That brings our total to more than $4,400 since we began the program, in April, 2006.

What's a Hate State? There are 30 of them now: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and Wisconsin; the states that have homophobic so-called "Defense of Marriage" amendments to their state constitutions, passed by popular vote. For more information, see the HRC's Marriage and Relationship Recognition Web page.

Summary Statistics:

The database now contains 18,679 listings with a total of 19,972 year-round, full-size pools in 10,617 communities and 167 countries.

Although we started with U.S. pools only, we now have 12,940 listings in 166 other countries, 69% of the total.

Among the listings, there are 1,611 hotels with on-site pools and another 486 listings are clubs, YMCAs, and other types of facility with discounted access available to guests registered at one or more nearby hotels.

If we're missing a good, year-round pool that you know about anywhere, please send us the info from the Add-A-Pool section of this site.
